Zenith Directors: anatomy of a logo

Designer: Kim Percy
Finished Art: Shanti Portia
Art Direction : Morgan Williams
Zenith Directors are high level mentors for corporate boards.
Brief
To create a new Corporate Identity for Zenith Directors that relates to parent company Vogel Percy. “It needs to be superb, appeal to elite clientele and connect with the current Vogel Percy style”.

Inspiration:
Designscope first turned to the current VP logo for inspiration.

This shape was derived from the top of the intertwined circles, which gave it a suggestion of wings.

By breaking up the VPC rings and re configuring them, this logo becomes the crest of a wave.

This logo was conjured from the overlapping VPC circles, which formed a shape alluding to hands, an opening, or a dynamic portal. The client responded to this sketch by asking for the top part of the logo to be taken away; to move beyond a feminine, embracing energy and towards a more singular and direct symbol

During the next stage we exacted the shape of the logo and developed a colour scheme. Again, we wanted to draw from the VPC corporate colours but add a contemporary twist. The deep blue was moved into the “twilight blue just before dark” and the red was given a dash of hot orange. This allowed the new colours to work along side the current office décor but still have a distinctive style. The Zenith logo was born!

Outcome:
Zenith Directors is a great example of a streamlined logo creation process. We have previously worked with Vogel Percy on their visual identity and web design, and have developed a good working relationship. This allowed us to succinctly tailor a design aligned to their core objections.
